The maximum render size is 800 x 600.
Render detail and anti-aliasing settings are limited.
A maximum of 3 populations of object such as plants may be enabled for rendering.
No animation capabilities.
The commercial version of Terragen is expected reasonably soon. I'm a great fan of Vue but I'll admit that Terragen does wonderful landscapes, water surfaces, skies and clouds. How far it progresses is hard to say. For anybody interested in trying out the freebie, I'd suggest downloading the Overview.pdf and follow the quick start directions for your first image. It will get you up and running in minutes...something like this...
