The March Free•For•All

The March Free•For•All

Postby Gare on Sun Mar 04, 2007 7:52 pm

This month's contest is a really, O'Reilly easy one!

For Saint Patrick's Day, either:

1.) Drive all the snakes out of your neighborhood, or
2.) Do an original design using green as the predominant color.

I don't care if you want to do a tribute to Dorothy's first glance at the Emerald City, envision a "STOP" sign in Dublin, do a painting of what a corned beef sandwich looks like after being out of the fridge until August, you name it!

First prize is a gift certificate for a Shamrock Shake at you-know-where.

Contest closes March 18th, don't be the last to toora-loora-loora...

My Best,

Patty O'Furniture

As I'm an Irish/Scottish mix I'll add the appropriate greetings...
This is two designs done in vectors with XaraX blended with PS.

You might just win this month, the Luck o' The Irish and no competition, Crow!

I'll even up the grand prize to an Irish seven-course meal: A potato and a six-pack!

Grin, duck and run,

...and the shelalagh, please

Postby Gare on Sun Mar 18, 2007 9:16 am

Wow. We got 152 hits on this month's free•for•all, but only two entries!

Folks are o'lurkin, eh?

All, right:

Best of Show goes to Welles O'Goodrich this month, for his hard work and rendering without electricity (you used pixel dust, right?). Welles, is that an example of Vue 6? Very nice trees, best I've seen using any app to date!

Runner up goes to the bonnie lass Crow Haven. Crow, I gave your prize a lot of thought; play a guessing game with me: is this a Lock-Ness Monster, a Paddy Loch, or c.) none of the below?

Welles, you have to recite a traditional off-color limerick as part of your acceptance speech, as in:

"The Irish, they have all the luck..."

...finish the quatrain to yourself...

My Best,

Gare

Gare,

I'm humbled to think...blah blah bla...

Yep, Vue 6 Infinite...Ecosystem brush...Fabulous tool. I would have had a more sophisticated entry but the power outage wiped out my first and I hadn't saved the file. So much for complacency and the green dove...

I'm on the clock...a three minute limerick...

The Irish, they have all the luck,
If their symbol had been a duck,
Instead of a shamrock
It'd be a big birdflock
And the derogative would be dumb cluck

Nice poetry, Mr. Winner! I was anticipating something along those lines :)

Are the clouds an eco-brush thingy, too?

Nope, the clouds are just a variation of one of the stock radiosity atmospheres. I'm still reading the new Vue text, well scanning really for new features. It's loaded. Carrara is put off  until my manual arrives from Amazon. I really like getting my start at new software by reading.  :geek:

I'll be up to speed on Vue 6 in a week or two but most of my time is devoted to finishing up content and development of my web site. Busy, busy...

I took a look at e-on's site and downloaded the videos--very impressive animations.

I think I might pop for the xStream for C4D or Maya, but clearly you have a lot of reading and experimenting ahead of you!

Love the fly-though the clouds!

My Best,

Gare

Yep, right off the bat the two biggest advances in Vue 6 are the atmospheres and various atmosphere models and the eco-system brush. Dare I say they are Infinitely better than Vue 5? Oops, I just did.

Plants for free

Postby Gare on Sun Mar 18, 2007 4:00 pm

Naturally, you receive a free plant and it's up to you to water it, but areno posted a neat link to an ivy generator (tangetially related to our esteemed Monthly Winner's entry). Check it out here and read my typically inadequate documentation right here
