Video Editing in PS CS3 Extended

Postby Gare on Sat Jul 28, 2007 1:22 pm

One of the new features in Extended is being able to bring in a video and then add a second video or still image.

I did both: the video shows a still image render I did in modo after carefully lighting it to match the background video. Then I used particleIllusions 3 to create the fountain water. As a render, I was able to specify an alpha channel for a no-brainer composite. I put the water into Color Dodge at partial opacity and also used the same fountain three times, offsetting each timeline. The video capabilities of Extended are just growing and growing on me!

+++ Honey, the neighbors didn't exactly put in a pool...+++

Using the Clone Source feature

Postby Gare on Sat Jul 28, 2007 1:38 pm

Here's a video example of "3D" compositing. Okay, the arch is fake, but to put the van through the fake arch required a little ingenuity and some time.

In Extended, you create a new blank video layer, open the Clone Source tool, and then with the Clone (Stamp) tool, you Alt/Opt+click to set the sampling point on the base layer, and then frame by frame clone onto the top new video layer to hide stuff on the middle layer, such as the arch.

It helps to have a shortcut set up for advancing frames on the Animation Timeline Editor palette, such as Ctrl+Shift+D.

it has been 3 weeks since I brought your book "retouch motion pics" I like this book very much, I follow the steps and created something that I am amazed myself, but there's only one problem that I couldn't figure out why, and that's there is no sound when I play the movie. I hope you can help out. Thank you!  ^

Hi and welcome!

To play sound back. you need to hold Alt/Opt before you click the Play button on the Animation (Timeline) palette.

Then again, a video file might not have an audio track, but the files that are companions you download with our book clearly tell you in the text which ones have sound and which don't.

Thanks for choosing the book and right here is the place for any questions about video editing!

My Best,

Gary
