The 7th Annual Tree-Trimming Party!

Postby Gare on Thu Nov 29, 2007 8:11 am

Yes, yes, yes!

It's that time of the Season, and time for the SEVENTH Annual Tree-Trimming Party/Collaboration/Whatever :)

For those of you who missed last year's gala event, here's what Our Tree looked like, about a dozen contributors and no one stepped on anyone's toe to reach the top branches!

Here's the tree and the rules

Postby Gare on Thu Nov 29, 2007 9:50 am

Let the trimming begin!

Below is the "before" image (I used Vue, once again no trees were harmed for the occasion), and below that is a close-up of one on the branches. I'll be posting more close-ups in following days. You probably want to download the close-up image, seeing as the whole tree doesn't allow good resolution of any of the ornaments you add.

1.  Post your ornament on the branch, or just post the ornament you design (use any program you like, drawing, painting, modeling, spreadsheet...you get the idea) as a JPEG, or alternatively/additionally, post it as an attachment in PNG format with a saved transparency layer and Barbara and I will hang it for you. But that's no fun.

2. Ornaments can be representative of any faith. For example, I consider myself to be a Methodist, but if you want to design a Hanukkah dradel or other festive chachke, more power to you. It's a Time of Togetherness and Peace.

3. Enjoy yourself! We have no vendor this year lined up to give a prize away to a winning ornament, but that's no really what the collaboration is about in spirit. And who knows who'll come down the chimney at the 11th hour?

Our Best,

Gary and Barbara

Branching out

Postby Gare on Thu Nov 29, 2007 9:52 am

Here's the first branch.

We'll naturally need an ornament for the top of the tree; I'll post a close-up shortly.

And tinsel! And popcorn boughs! AND LIGHTS!

(Use the full-size guy for these).

My Best

A Stocking Stuffer from The Boutons

Postby Gare on Thu Nov 29, 2007 12:31 pm

When I was a kid a million years ago, many of us Baby Boomers were a little strapped for cash around the holidays. Which made every gift something special. One year, I received a tiny music box from my Grandmother; actually, it was just the guts (no wooden box) and I absolutely cherished it. It appealed to my love for gadgets plus my love for music.

I made a small gift for our members this year along similar lines. I've been experimenting with a Digital Audio Workspace this year and cobbled a version of the traditional classic "Little Drummer Boy".

Right-click to download the 2MB mp3 file The Little Drummer Boy (Clicking this link will probably only play it in your browser.)

The song is Public Domain and vis a vis DRM, there aren't any. It's royalty-free as gifts should be. So download it, consider it a stocking stuffer from Gary and Barbara, and then put it in your iPod mix.

Happy Holiday!

The Boutons

Here's another ornament.  I painted this in acrylics on a wooden box then modified it into the ornament design with PS.

Welles and Maya, up in a tree...

Postby Gare on Sat Dec 01, 2007 1:36 pm

Okay, I figure at 6'3", I'm tall enough to reach the higher branches.

I added a little popcorn and some Silver Bells, Silver Bells, it's...

:)

More branches coming up,

Gare

Awwwww...that's a cute one Rick!

I tried to make a hand-made metal-looking star tree top... so here's another idea...this was created in PS.

Arborial Update

Postby Gare on Wed Dec 12, 2007 8:49 am

It's 12 days and counting, so Maids get a'milking and Lords get a'Leaping!

Here's where we are today. Rick, your star goes on top, because she's not only your star, but she's an angel (forgive my shading; I wanted to make it look a tad more dimensional!).

Ho x3,

Gare
