Upcoming Photo-paint X4 guide?

Postby Obeahx on Tue May 12, 2009 2:07 pm

Hi Gary Im a newbie in Corel but really want to learn. Just bought your book on CorelDraw and I love it. Is there an upcoming similar guide (not e-book) for Photo-paint X4? Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, Corel Corp. has no plans (as they did in past years) to release a book covering Photo-Paint.

I've heard nothing from McGraw-Hill, the "Official" Corel book publishers, and when I wrote the guide, I was actually asked not to spend a lot of time documenting PhotoPaint, even though it comes with DRAW X4.

Your remedies are:
1. Write to Corel Corp., specifically to Gerard, and ask them to document Photo-Paint.
2. Read my chapter on bitmap editing in the Draw Official Guide more than once :).
3. Understanding that bitmap editing is a completely different discipline than vector drawing, scout down a book on painting in general. Or get a book on Photoshop, seriously. With the exception of Art Rage (and MS-Paint) every bitmap paint program that's in existence today commercially, has copied Adobe's interface, the layers idea, the brushes, the plug-ins. Photo-Paint, Painter, Gimp, Paint Shop Pro, all these guys...are enough like Photoshop, that a Photoshop book would help you learn the techniques but not the key commands.

Notice I did not shamelessly plug the 12 books I've written on Photoshop?

My Best,

Gary
