The Gallery is Back!
Finally! Whew! But what took TheBoutons so long to get the gallery back up???
Well, it's a long story, filled with villains such as:
- a broken database
- a change in software
- Unix
- (lack of) open source documentation
- Summer
...the cast goes on like a bad Star Wars episode, but the Good News is that the Member Showcase is up and running now, with a lot of enhancements. You'll find it much easier now to upload to your album, lots of new options and fields for your own data, and the Gallery II module hooks into a wonderfully bizarre "immersion" view via the Firefox plug-in CoolIris...if you want to pan and rotate your album until the amusement wears thin.
Who Can Have A Gallery?
Any member of TheBoutons dot com. Registration is free to become a member; we don't do this to data-mine, but rather to keep spam-bots from posting pictures your grandmother probably wouldn't want to see. And that means that you need to keep your posts family friendly-- no porn, hateful or anti-social stuff.
The idea is that content generates publicity: the more members who post albums, the more publicity you get as an artist (without the hassle of creating your own website), and the more attractions TheBoutons have to offer--win/win; it's that simple.
We recommend that you crop copies of your work down to 800 by 600 pixels maximum size and use JPEG as the file format. PNG is accepted, but the files tend to be larger. We can also display Shockwave (swf) files in your gallery, but you will need to generate your own thumbnail previews for your album. You can give your albums descriptions that appear on the album thumbnail page so take the opportunity to talk about your work and yourself--don't be shy. Also when editing the information about each photo be sure to click on the Custom Fields tab where you can enter copyright and contact info for each piece.
Be sure to keep a copy of your work on your own hard disk -- we take no responsibility to store or backup any artwork or photography you submit.
If you need help (you shouldn't, the upload page for albums is pretty straightforward), post on the Pixel Dust forum, and the solution can then be posted for everyone to learn from.
Take a look around, the gallery's cafeteria is overpriced and located on the mezzanine, and we've got extended visiting hours for the summer!
(Actually, they're 24/7 all the time, but it sounds good, doesn't it?)
